The breakfast was (admittedly) pretty good! Nice, thick bacon, tasty shredded hash browns with delicious crispy bits, and no mistakes in our orders. Better than I was told about.
There was slight slurge, but not much. Coffee refills weren’t free, but at least the claw-game machines didn’t have annoying voices (everybody who shops at Value Village knows what I mean). The coffee was straight from the underground lake, making the refill point moot.
Definitely check out the Windmill for breakfast.

The Windmill is a tasty treat on a not-so-tasty street. It’s quintessentially Winnipeg North Endish, with self-serve coffee, flea market art on the walls and fluorescent lighting. It’s also kind of charming. There are working juke boxes all over the place; in the booths and against the wall. We were treated to some George Jones around 11am but until then, the place was pretty quiet. The only loud things were the glittery sombreros lining the walls amidst pictures of Holland.
Another North Endish thing to do, which the Windmill promotes, is having bologna and eggs for breakfast. I’ve never dared. Another thing to dare was their “Fat Specialty” just an overloaded burger and fries. At least they’re honest.
The interior signage was similarly classic: “Salads now available.” And the menu featured many hilarious assaults against the English language. “Ceaser,” “Weiners,” “Chile dog,” “Chilli burger,” and “pyrogies”
