The whole menu was written on large chalk boards and was quite ornate. There were only a few punctuation errors, like the all-too-common inappropriate apostrophes and quotation marks. Our breakfast was made in about two-and-a-half minutes and included eggs to order, standard rye toast, four slices of bacon and “hashbrowns” which were actually French fries.
The disconcerting part of the meal was the resemblance to KFC and Taco Bell. Bear with me here, but the bacon tasted a bit like KFC chicken. Obviously some cross-grill issues there. The fries came with raw green onions on top, which I don’t mind at all, but all it needed was a splash of sour cream and a couple pieces of tomato to make it a fries supreme from the ‘Bell. That was a new breakfast experience for me.
The rest of the menu had lots of really inexpensive items, and the restaurant was full of regulars that Sandi addressed by name and whose tastes she had memorized. I don’t recommend you go out of your way for the breakfast, but it’s better than the one across the street at Tojo’s in the Cambridge Hotel. If you don’t have a lot of cash, you may want to explore their loonie burgers.

Sandi’s has got to have one of the most unappealing facades we’ve encountered yet. It’s located in the Pemby (which just about says it all), and was square and seedy-looking.
However, it was kind of awesome inside.
It used to be known as Trevor D’s, after the owner of the Pemby, but was changed six years ago to Sandi’s, after the woman who runs the restaurant. They were coy about why the name changed, and since Trevor was still around, who knows?
It was a greasy spoon, through and through. It had wooden stools by the bar and flimsy-looking but sturdy wooden chairs around small tables. The floor looked like it was straight out of a high school, with tiny flecks of stones in it, and a big huge crack through the whole thing.
Classic fifties aggregate crushed stone floor.
Points for retro.
