Before I get more into the food, I have to mention how they screwed up our orders. Eggs came over easy instead of over hard, there were no pancakes and no syrup. Leif had ordered French Toast, and got a breakfast special. When he told the server that he had ordered French toast, she simply said “No you didn’t,” and walked off.
Once we were settled that our orders were reasonably (or unreasonably) close to what we wanted to eat, we dug in and I took note of the other shortcomings. There were two choices for potato: potato wedges, fresh from a frozen bag of McCain and deep fried into salty oblivion; or hashbrowns, chunkleted potatoes grilled until very soft and gently herbed. The hashbrowns weren’t great but were much better than the wedges. It was all becoming too much. The over easy eggs were sent back to become hard and arrived back at the table not a hair over medium. The bacon was grilly, and the pancakes, while thick, tasted thin and had an odd aftertaste.
Roscoe’s suffers from being a cafeteria. All the food is chosen for quickness of preparation and not quality. The décor is there to be forgotten, not contemplated. I’m glad there’s an option for people to eat in that area, and since they’ve been around for 20 years they’ve gotta have some fans, but we don’t recommend you go out of your way.
