Almost everybody at the table ordered something different, affording a nice perspective on the overall food quality. My breakfast special came with 3 strips of perfect bacon, eggs with parsley flakes on them and potatoes with the skin still on. The potatoes were delicious, just greasy enough without being slippery and were well-done without having to stagnate on the grill for an hour. The coffee was completely average, but with free refills and a long Halloween party under our belts from the night before, it was guzzled like ambrosia.
The breakfast conversation was the best part of the experience, as always.
Good band name: Egg Tendrils (thank you Chris), referring to the hair-like strands that inevitably stray from the main egg body.
[Best idea from the whole hungover morning: surely you’ve heard of how beer bongs get the maximum amount of beer in you in the shortest amount of time possible right? Well, let me introduce: the breakfast bong! For those of you on the run but still craving your brekkie, simply tilt your plate into the top of the funnel and allow the natural grease of the food to lubricate the journey down to your awaiting gullet. A popular choice for those not prone to chewing. Manufacturer’s warning: toast does not go down without assistance.]
The food is excellent all around and the location is fantastic. The service was a bit slow. Even though I acknowledge that it was busy, I’ve seen busier with faster service.

PROMENADE BISTRO
130 Provencher Blvd
Traditional Breakfast -
$3.75 plus coffee, free refills.
The best way to sum up the Promenade Bistro is to take the quote from the back of their menu,
“Come enjoy first class
affordable food
cooked for you
by a first class chef”
Not exactly a haiku, but it’s to the point.
This is not your average greasy-spoon you’d expect from the prices. It’s clean, spacious and offers a fantastic view of the city from pretty well anywhere that you could sit. In fact, it is one of the few places in Winnipeg that offers a perspective on downtown that actually makes it look attractive. (One of the other prominent views that has this effect is from the Disraeli Bridge.)
The bistro is divided into two parts, the diner and the lounge. On Sunday morning it’s all classified as diner, so we took up a rather long table in the lounge area. The place filled up quickly but they were very accommodating to our large group.
