Our breakfasts were okay but they featured a unique screw-up: I ordered my eggs over-easy, and I received scrambled! That’s a first for me. They gave me extra over-easy eggs to make up for it, and the waitress was adamant that it was the cook’s mistake, not hers. It was actually pretty funny because it wasn’t busy at all; it was just a blind oversight.
The rest of the breakfast wasn’t an oversight, it was just non-standard and a bit sub-standard, truth be known. The potatoes were deep-fried ‘tater strips which, while tasty, isn’t a favourite of mine.
The coffee was okay, a bit better that most of the places we’ve reviewed lately; it scored a high 2 on a scale of 3. The toast was a decent rye but the bacon was dry and didn’t taste like bacon. It really just didn’t taste like anything… maybe a bit like grill but that’s it. I had the extra-meat breakfast (of course) and the sausages were breakfast links, but thankfully gristle-free. All the meals came with a slice of watermelon.
I appreciated the jam caddy with a healthy amount of jam, JIF peanut butter and honey. Also the fact that they refrigerated the creamers instead of letting them congeal on the counter like most places.

So, the Oakwood Grill’s breakfast was lackluster. It has an impressive appearance and a nice atmosphere to eat it in, but it’s certainly not a stunning meal. I would be interested in trying their lunches sometime, but that area is not looking good for brekkie, what with Woo’s being across the street.
Other low points: the kielbasa sausage and the perogies were unimpressive. We did get a good number of refills of their good coffee, so that made us happy.
Oakwood Grill will do in a pinch if you live in the area, but I wouldn’t go out of your way.

The Oakwood Cafe is a shmancy-looking place that has a horrible punctuation error soon as you walk in the door. The sign on the inside says ““Please” wait to be seated.” There’s a few grammar and punctuation mistakes that just get under my skin, and inappropriate quotation marks is one of them.
Another is the wrong use of an apostrophe, but fortunately that didn’t come up… this day. Our server was unenthusiastic but very accommodating. She helped us push tables together and find a good place to sit. There are glass tabletops on all the tables, hanging fake plants and shmancy art on the walls. All in all it’s a cozy atmosphere. Fake antiques but real plants on the table, unlike their hanging brethren.
