The Junior - $6.75, coffee $3.
Unfortunately our first impression of Kristina’s was that the service was TERRIBLE. Just awful. There was absolutely no consistency whatsoever. Our table ordered before the one next to us, and not only did they get theirs first, they were done eating before we even got ours. And then, only two of the three of us at the table got our food right away.
The third, my unfortunate father, had to wait an extra ten minutes for his omelette to make an appearance. Ridiculous, especially given that it wasn’t busy when we got there. Breakfast was a new thing for Kristina’s, only having served it for about two months. Apparently they hadn’t quite got the swing of things.
To compound things, their coffee passed the Campsie test, which meant that it was thin and transparent enough to read a newspaper through. Who likes this stuff? It was like drinking warm rusty water. See picture for evidence.
The food was actually decent, but with a few caveats. The Kristina’s omelette was good, but the olives advertised in the menu were nowhere to be seen. Actually, it was up for debate whether they were just vaporized and sprayed on or absent altogether. The hashbrowns were cross-sectioned deep fried potatoes that were more like potato chips than potatoes. The bacon came in a neat snarl and was good, but the eggs were flecked with black and grilly. The toast was fine, choice of multigrain or rye. A mixed batch of food, but for the most part was fine.
They redeemed themselves slightly by having Frank’s Red Hot sauce in ramekins.
In the end, because of the horrible service, mixed-bag food and the slap-in-the-face-bad coffee (and coffee price), we don’t recommend Kristina’s. Go to Fresh Café instead, 100 feet westward. Heck, go another couple kilometres to the Falafel Place, and you’ll love yourself.
If they deep-fry the hashbrowns, why did the food take so long?
