The Jolly Mug is a diner’s diner. This was the first restaurant in a long time where we can honestly say we’ve been to a diner. Very nice. The décor is kind of like “what if the Nook and Rae & Jerry’s had a baby?” Red seats, red squares on the walls, faux-fancy chandeliers, and food straight from The Nook. Also, there seemed to be nobody under 40 except a baby and our group.
I got the hungryman breakfast, featuring all three types of hog meat typically served at breakfast: bacon, ham and sausage. The sausages were deep fried and the bacon and ham were super greasy. The eggs were not greasy at all, which was nice since the meats more than made up for it. The potatoes were distinctly Nook-style, mushy and crispy at the same time. One fellow breakfaster ordered hers “crispy” and they came deep fried, looking like chips. They were tastier than mine, dammit.
We had a nice selection of their breakfast menu at our table. Two other members of our party got the breakfast sandwich, and meat lover’s omelette. The MugMuffin (as I called it) had two fried eggs, processed cheese and crispy bacon. The meat lover’s omelette had no cheese, and the meat was dry.
The Jolly Mug opened on December 28, 1998. A solid diner, but not a spectacular one. You come for diner food, and that’s what you get.

The omelette corner with Chantal Guénette
Jolly Mug: Ham, cheese & mushroom omelette
Bouquet: The menu had one of the largest omelette selections I’ve seen (11 omelettes!), but there wasn’t a ham, cheese & mushroom option. Either ham & cheese OR mushroom & bacon omelette, but when I asked to add mushrooms to the ham & cheese omelette, it wasn’t a problem at all. The ham was your standard cubes and the mushrooms were fresh, and very large.
Boeuf: Processed cheese! (Seriously, why do you even exist? Nobody likes you.) They also didn’t have hot sauce, but I brought my own as usual. I’m starting to think that I should bring my own cheese as well…
