The décor was reminiscent of a pub-style restaurant, with a slight country feel to it. Many wooden shelves filled with random kitsch adorned the walls, which was nice but was quaint, not funky.
The Jolly Friar’s buffet was fairly small, but had all the breakfast fixings we needed, plus a decent selection of fruit. For the price, we’ve been to bigger buffets with chocolate fountains.
The breakfast items included roast potatoes, eggs Florentine, bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs. The potatoes were dry and bland, and the scrambled eggs were rubbery rubbery rubbery. On the other hand, the sausages were actually a step up from the usual breakfast links we were expecting, and the bacon was good and stiff without being overdone.
The coffee had no kick and barely proved itself to be coffee, but came in large carafes.
The breakfast special wasn’t much better. The shredded potatoes were dry and the green onions were basically raw and just tossed on top. The bacon was middle-of-the-road, dry and just too crispy.
Our server was a touch-on-the-arm style host, a tactic designed to make patrons think they’re attractive, and therefore tip better. Apparently.
Come for the ribs at night but delve a little further into St. Boniface for better breakfast.
