Gail’s on Garry is the on the other side of that horrible mall, Fort Garry Place, from one of our favourite places to eat, 2 Kelly’s. This is the mall of the possessive female cafés. Unfortunately, Gail’s doesn’t compare to 2 Kelly’s at all. Fortunate for Kelly.
Gail’s was business brek cafeteria food. Everything was fluorescent-lit and sterile looking. No atmosphere at all. The only unique things were that our booth (okay, booths are unusual in a cafeteria) had a window that could actually be opened to the outside world (which we gladly did), and that each table had a bottle of Frank’s hot sauce on it. Both regular and lime flavours, but too bad the lime one is super gross.
The coffee was terrible. Seriously. It fell into the category where we would have been better off not tasting it at all, rather than sip and regret it like we did.
The plate of food was very small – in fact, the toast (choice of multigrain, rye, white or brown) was as big as the rest of the meal. The four strips of bacon were short, so really it was like having just two strips, and while the hashbrowns were nicely chopped potatoes with skins on (points for not being tater tots like I expected), they weren’t cooked well and were hard in the middle. The eggs were fine, as was the toast so it wasn’t ALL bad.
Go to 2 Kelly’s, really.
