Brunch Buffet - $16.00, coffee $2.50
We’ve been to Blaze before for the a la carte menu and this time we came back for the buffet. We found the a la carte to be expensive and not quite worth it. Well, that stands for the buffet as well. It’s only $1.50 more than the a la carte special, so if you feel like you have room for an extra handful of bacon, just go for the buffet.
Be careful on their buffet line, the heavy metal lids on the warming trays slam back loudly. The contents of the trays were typical of buffet anywhere – tray o’ bacon, tray o’ breakfast link sausages (ugh), soft potatoes, scrambled eggs. There was kubasa (as the spell it) as well, but it was plastic-like and not happy-making. The coffee was better than we expected – tasty, but not very strong, and they just left a big carafe on our table for us. I like that. I also like unlimited orange juice, even if it’s just Tropicana instead of fresh-squeezed like at the Falafel Place.
There was a great selection of pastries and strudel, and their fruit selection was ample. You have to toast your own toast, which is sort of cool ‘cuz if you get cold toast, it’s your own damn fault. Nice selection of breads.
While the restaurant has very nice art on the walls, the atmosphere is impersonal/corporate. Blaze is expensive, but with decent food. But expensive. Did I mention the special is $14.50? Yeah. Sometimes we like expensive breakfast like The Velvet Glove or the Fort Garry buffet, but Blaze just doesn’t ring our bell.
