Canadian Classic - $6.00

Billabong breakfast beats berating boisterous bananaheads any day. Ok, I pushed the alliteration a bit there, but still, it was great.

Billabong’s décor was kind of kooky. I’m not sure what to think about the embossed wallpaper and the fake fireplace in the serving area, but I did like the tables by the window overlooking Osborne. The thing I was most excited for was the kangaroo meat. Yes, I had breakfast ‘roo.

The Canadian Special came with a selection of meats. Leif had the pulled pork and I had the bacon, with a side of kangaroo. Let me cut to the chase – the kangaroo was delicious. It was a sweet meat, barbequed and seasoned to perfection.

The coffee was tasty but not too strong. The Alder smoked bacon was good bacon but I’m not sure how the Alder wood enhanced the experience at all. Maybe I was just overblown by the kangaroo. Probably. They gave us some spicy tomato sauce which was pretty much just ketchup with vinegar. I had sourdough bread and Leif had the pumpernickel, two types that are not often served with breakfast, so we were happy.

Overall I was quite happy with the meal. I’d much rather come back to Billabong on a Sunday morning than go to Buccacino’s down the street.
